An internship of a lifetime

You will have the opportunity to teach various subjects at elementary, middle or high schools in English, French, German or Arabic during a 4-week accredited internship. Some of our lovely participants have shared their experiences with our program in a form of a blog.

Requirements

  • The program is open to all prospective teachers and recent graduates in the field of education
  • Ability to participate fully in a classroom and program conducted entirely in English, French, Arabic or German
  • Ability and willingness to travel unaccompanied abroad for 4 weeks
  • Ability and willingness to secure travel visa if selected

Where are the schools?

Backpack2school partners with schools and universities in Algeria, Morocco, Switzerland and we are expanding.
Placements are in schools that are carefully evaluated for suitability, safety and need. Each country and city offers unique local experiences, outdoor activities, food, music, and cultural pursuits abound.

2. Step: Plan

Attend preparation seminar

  • Attend a 2 days seminar where you will learn the intercultural concepts and skills that allow you to interact appropriately and effectively with host country nationals
  • Meet your local mentor (virtually) and discuss the timetable and objectives of your 4-week internship
  • Meet with a local students teacher (virtually) and plan your classes around topics with a focus on education for sustainable development

3. Step: Teach

As a Backpack2school-Participant you will:

  • Teach children and young adults various subjects Conduct project weeks around sustainable education with local student teachers
  • Assist and develop educational activities and exchange best practices that help improve the learning environment
  • Reflect on your teaching performance and experience with your local mentor
  • Live at a host family and immerse fully in the local culture
  • Explore the country with our travel partners and country ambassadors

4. Step: Reflect

Reflection Seminar

Participating in this seminar will allow you to share and compare the experiences you had. We will help you translate your experience into skills that foster culturally responsive approach to teaching.
